Mike's Field Notes is a digital journal exploring the intersection of technology and the natural world. From tracking Minnesota weather with high-res data to global amateur radio ops as KC0EVP, these notes provide technical insight and visual observation for the modern explorer.

Welcome to Mike's Field Notes. Today, I'm officially establishing the signal for a new digital journal dedicated to technical insight and visual observation.

What it is...

This is the start of a project where I bring you along for the ride. It's a chance to share my experience, my knowledge, and my adventures. This isn't designed to be polished; it's going to be raw and unscripted at times. Think of this as a direct data feed from the field to your inbox.

What I want to share...

I enjoy many different things. This project is focused primarily on my hobbies and my interests, explored through a technical lens:

  • Weather & Meteorology: Technical breakdowns of atmospheric events using high-res satellite imagery and local station data.

  • Amateur Radio (KC0EVP): Field reports from mobile ops, signal propagation analysis, and "shack" updates from the FT-950.

  • Water & Outdoors: 4k perspectives from the trails and shores of Minnesota.

  • The Build: Insights into the tech behind the scenes, from C# data tools to the cinema gear used to capture these reports.

Sometimes this will be a story. Sometimes it will be more of a how-to. You may also be subject to just beautiful scenery.

This is the first of what I hope is many. Thanks for coming along.
